Sometimes it’s OK to say “NO”

This week, I learned the value of saying “NO” on occasion. I was asked to facilitate at an event on Saturday. My first reaction was “Agree, Rebecca!” However, after giving it some brief thought, I realized that I simply did not have the time to prepare for the event and that it would not be in everyone’s best interest for me to haphazardly perform a task for the sake of willingness to do it. When I agree to something, it’s because I have a sincere desire to do it justice – not just for another notch on my belt, so to speak. Blindly agreeing to anything is not going to command respect; making a mindful and informed decision is – even if the answer is “NO” from time to time.
