In a past relationship, it was a source of frustration for my partner that I was a consistent “NO” person. I think back on those times with the desire to understand my mindset at the time. STRESS … that is what stress does to us – it violently removes our desire to LIVE our life. In 2011, I have simply decided to be the BEST me possible. What this entails is simply having passion for life and the willingness to live it to the fullest with joy while abolishing stress. I go with the flow, enjoying the ripples of the tide, and the crashing of the waves. I now have the ability to agree to everything while honouring myself. BEAUTIFUL

A day of Monday tea-drinking and architecture gazing with some new friends in Cambridge brought me to the officer training at the Stone Road Toastmasters meeting to participate in the Officer Training. A recent development occurred as of late when I was asked to step in as the Treasurer for the forthcoming year. Although PR is certainly more my forté, I am detail oriented and have experience with accounting, so I expect this will be comfortable – worse case scenario: tolerable. Just another way of getting the most out of my Toastmasters education/training; saying “YES” one step (or giant leap) at a time towards my professional goals!

What a fantastic day filled with networking, learning, and socialization! The key note speaker was Clint Cora, speaker, author, and karate world champion. There were several points that immediately stood out to me:

Instead of just making wishes, I will make totally committed ___________________.

I should always try to expand my _____________________ each week by at last _____ %.

I should hang out with others who are highly _____________________.

My answers? Decisions, comfort/10, motivated/ambitious/adventurous… of course, there are a myriad of positive and encouraging words that I could insert above.

Over the past year, I have been too busy (or perhaps this is simply an excuse because I could have made the time) to attend any of the Toastmasters training events. What a refreshing change to say “YES” to furthering my dedication to my club!

However, given my general sense of positivity, I know I have responded much more favourably to queries directed my way than I would have in the past.

One particular item stands out to me from the past week: A dear friend has invited me numerous times to her Atlantean meditation evening. I always seem to find reasons not to go. With the current invitation, I immediately said “YES”. Little did I know that it would be an evening of enlightenment mixed with opportunity. Not only did I experience an incredibly blissful state, but I met a Body Talk practitioner (which I am interested in) who has been to the Hippocrates Institute (which I am more interested in), and is looking for some web site work.

My first week as a “YES” person has been… interesting, challenging, and rewarding:

I wasn’t especially interested in attending my last Toastmasters meeting. I didn’t have a role for the meeting and was planning on staying home. However, last minute, I was asked to fill a role as an evaluator. I delivered a rather grudging “YES”, but it turned out to be a great meeting, and I provided feedback on a truly enjoyable speech.

Often, I know I have frustrated my sister with my constantly full schedule and inability to be flexible with spur of the moment plans. This week, I clearly surprised her when she asked me out to dinner and I responded with an immediate “YES”.

This weekend past, a friend invited me to an afternoon workshop on starting seedlings. I delivered an immediate (but less enthused “YES” than I would have hoped), but it turned out to be an absolute blessing. Little City Farm (Urban homestead / eco B&B) turned out to be one of those undiscovered gems in Kitchener-Waterloo, the type of gem that I would like to gaze adoringly on my finger.

Further to this past weekend, another friend invited me to a launch party for Backyard Bounty. “YES”. During the course of the afternoon, I discovered a great book on sprouting (complete with recipes) that I’m going to pick up at Organic Botanics this coming weekend in Guelph, in addition to a collection of medicinal and culinary seeds to grow.

It was recently brought to my attention that Dr. Brian Clement is coming back to Southern Ontario to speak. Having seen him this fall, I would love to see him again… however, his talk is 2 days after we get home from Iceland and the night before we’re due in Ottawa. How could I possibly say “YES” to this one without it costing a mint? With a little bit of creativity, it seems we will trade in some Air Miles, fly to Ottawa first thing on the Saturday morning and make a weekend of it. Crisis averted, “YES” to be provided!

My first week as a “YES” person went excellent. I had a few challenging moments, a few moments which I choose not to share with the general public, and several that I had to respectfully decline, due to possibly negative mental/emotional/physical results.
