I have been trying to go raw for several years now, but I often find myself experiencing setbacks (apathy, gluttony, ambivalence, frustration, etc. etc.) Yes – I still am (and expect) myself to have setbacks, but I have now made it more difficult to fall (far) from the cart: I made a promise to my partner that I would no longer have any junk in the house (being a temptation for both of us).

All it takes is one good idea to bring forth the promise of abundance and prosperity. However, so many fantastical thoughts that enter our minds leave just as quickly because they seem to improbable or impossible. Or, we simply don’t know what to do with them. I am a conduit for ideas, but I usually maintain them on a small level. I have decided to change this. From now on, I am going to THINK BIG.

I’ve been working on a couple of projects in my spare time – notably myphpcms and The Holistic Ontario Directory. My original thought was that I would grow them sprout-size, and then grow different, other sprouts. Instead, maybe I should consider growing them into shrubs or trees?

This past week has had me thinking about saying “YES” to life in general. Several days ago, an obituary was pointed out to me in the local paper of someone I knew and worked for several years ago. Several years later, I am reading the story of his life and consequent passing – at the age of 39. From what I remember, he was always a “YES” person – alive and passionate about being alive. I didn’t know him well, and I can’t even imagine the loss which his spouse and children will endure. What it has brought home to be is the passion in which I which to live my own life, and the love and care that I want to continually bestow on those close to me. Life is short enough. Life is too short to spend hiding behind a computer and forgetting to smell the flowers. Tonight, I am going for a walk to smell the flowers – even if it rains.

This past week has been challenging. Due to some lingering dental pain before and after my root canal, I suspect the only things I have said “YES” to have been pharmaceuticals, sleep, and movie rentals. I am, of course, exaggerating somewhat.

Friday evening, I attended a concert of my ex-housemate, Ken Brown at the Registry Theatre in Kitchener. Ordinarily, I tend to frequent live music venues that offer a good selection of food and drink and certainly *not* when I’m tired and in pain. However, he is a a wonderful musician and, in the end, it was a wonderful show!

I have not yet taken the role of timer at a Toastmasters meeting. I suppose it is because I find the particulars of the role to be dull – I would rather be verbally expressing myself, rather than buttoning it up and keeping my eye on a stop watch. However, with no timer for this week’s meeting, I agreed to take the role and said “YES” to another tick in my Competent Leadership (CL) manual.

… if you decided to become a “Yes” person instead of a “No” person? What would happen if you challenged those almost habitual decisions to dismiss an idea or an action, and decided to follow through and see what would happen? I have been a “No” person for much of my adult life, but now I’m considering the alternative… Y.E.S..

Short of causing myself physical or emotional harm, what would happen if I changed my immediate, often canned, response to something more positive? Louise Hay, the wonderful author of You Can Heal Your Life, proposes the following: “What if with every thought you think, you are actually creating your present and future?” With every suggestion or invitation that is proposed, your reaction/answer is similarly creating your present and future.
